Easter

Beloved, as we prepare to celebrate the commemoration of the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ which is what Easter stands for, it is important we draw our attention to the significant of the occasion, our expectation and then what our preparation should be.

We should understand that at Easter we celebrate the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ on the Cross of Cavalry which brought about the revocation of the destruction that was meted out against mankind as a result of the sin of Adam and Eve.

Christ’s sacrifice on the cross gave us the privilege to escape the wrath of God and be partakers of His righteousness, wealth, joy and victory. And by His resurrection we obtain victory over Satan and sin and this victory restored the covenant of peace and blessing which God had with us and which became blemished after the fall of Adam.

So, at Easter we reflect on His finished work of redemption which bestows upon us mercy, favour, dominion, honour, glory and above all eternal life. Easter is therefore the livewire of Christianity because everything became anew as a result of Easter. It was at Easter that the purpose of the coming of our Saviour was fulfilled, thus there is every reason to celebrate Easter.

1Jn 3: 8b says, “…For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil”

The great end of the manifestation of the Son of God is to destroy the works of the devil, to deliver those in bonds and fetters. Christ came to set free those in captivity, shut and locked up in the prison-house of Satan, those under the dominion of sin, and power of Satan. He came to rescue us, to knock off our fetters, and to set us at liberty and above all brings salvation to all. Easter seals the reason for His manifestation and brings the fulfillment of all the above

Jn 10: 10b says, “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly”

When God saw the woes which mankind was subjected to because of the sin of Adam, He sent His only Son Jesus Christ to redeem us from the impending doom and grant us not only life but an abundant of life that is enduring which was lost in Adam. So, the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, His sacrifice on the cross of Calvary and resurrection gave humanity access to all heavenly blessings which include mercy, grace, salvation, Holy Ghost baptism, freedom, peace, joy unspeakable, dominion and above all a privilege for a glorious immortality.

However, very unfortunately many Children of God lack the knowledge of what the grace of God has brought to mankind thus they are suffering and dying in ignorant. And that is why hopelessness has pervaded the life of many Christians. Many have cut off themselves from the provisions availed by His coming and thus are suffering. So, as we celebrate His resurrection comes this Easter, we shall by that act be reviving the covenant of peace and blessing God had with us. This is more reason we must prepare very well to receive Him during this Easter in order to partake in the restoration of the covenant.

I strongly believe if we earnestly prepare by repenting from our sinful life and accepting Christ as our Saviour, we shall experience a new life of transformation. A life where old sinful life such as drunkenness, womanizing, and all sorts of wickedness shall be no more. Thereafter, we shall become Spirit filled and ready to work according to the dictate of the Holy Spirit. But take note, if you refused to repent from your sin as a matter of preparation, Easter will come and go but the restoration of the covenant of peace and blessing shall elude you.

Ps 1:5 says, “Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous”.

If we want the peace and blessing of God to be restored in our lives, we must be conformed to His nature of holiness. So, if we are to be among those desiring to benefit from the restoration of His covenant of peace and blessing comes this Easter, we must prepare to be holy. If you desire to be delivered from chronic sin, you must give up all forms of wickedness, renounce them and give your life to Jesus Christ. If your case is disappointment and lack of promotion, and you want to experience favour, you must prepare to be holy. If you are barren, and wish to be fruitful, you must prepare to be holy. And when you conform to His nature of holiness, you will realize that He never called you to seek Him in vain.

Beloved, the will of God in the Old as well as New Testament is not ambiguous but is plain and open to the people. He said, ‘Ye shall be holy, for I am holy’. There is no uncertainty in God’s requirement; the commandment is audacious and clear. God commanded His people to be separated from the world, because they are required to be holy, for His character, His laws, and services are holy.

1Thes. 4: 7 says, “For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness”

When He called us to be His followers, it was not that we should live the lives of uncleanness, but of holiness. We should, therefore, fulfill the purposes for which we are called into His kingdom. The Christian calling demands purity of life both in the physical and spiritual. Holiness is the sure foundation on which covenants are established and eternal life built upon.

Exodus 19: 10-11 says, “And the LORD said unto Moses, Go unto the people, and sanctify them to day and to morrow, and let them wash their clothes, 11 And be ready against the third day: for the third day the LORD will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai”

In the days of Moses, whenever God proposed to commune with Children of Israel, He would direct Moses to sanctify them so that they could conform to His nature of holiness before He would meet them. This is because without holiness no eye shall see the Lord. Moses accordingly would cause them to cleanse and prepare themselves. The outward washing of clothes commanded by God was a sign of the inward cleansing of the heart from sin, which God required of every one. During those Bible days, two things particularly were prescribed as instances of their preparation. Firstly, the washing of their clothes would remind them of the need to remember to cleanse themselves from all sinful pollutions. It was not that God regards their clothes, but while they were washing their clothes, He would have them think of cleansing their souls by repentance.

As it becomes of us to appear in clean clothes when we wait upon great men; so clean hearts are required when preparing for the renewal of the covenant we had with God. Secondly, in devoting themselves entirely to spiritual exercises like fasting, prayers and abstinence from lawful enjoyments during the period, we are expected to conduct ourselves same way as a matter of preparation. As the Lord visited His people in the Bible days according to His promised and blessed them, I am assuring you if we do what they did, we shall be visited and blessed in Jesus name.

If you have not being preparing for the restoration that Easter brings, I want you to try this time and you will be surprised of what God can do. I don’t know the area in your life that you wish should be restored, what I know and can assure you is that my God who has being in the business of restoration will meet you at the point of your need. So, prepare and be restored in Jesus name.
