Bill Gates bought an electric Porche instead of a Tesla— drawing shade from Elon Musk. “My conversations with Gates have been underwhelming tbh,” Musk tweeted late Monday, using the online shorthand for “to be honest.”
The jab came as a response to an interview the Microsoft founder and world’s second-richest did with popular tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee, in which he revealed that he had recently purchased his first electric vehicle — a Porche Taycan.

Though Gates praised Tesla for helping make electric vehicles mainstream in the fight to battle climate change, he also noted that consumers still need to “overcome that range anxiety,” or the fear that they’ll be stranded with a dead battery.
The comment led Tesla fan account “Tesletter” to complain on Twitter that “a lot of people are going to watch the interview and they are going to trust Bill’s word for it and not even consider EVs” because Gates “is a really smart guy!”

Musk responded to the Tesletter complaint by suggesting Gates is a dull conversationist.
It’s not the first time Musk — worth a mere $42 billion, according to Forbes, compared to Gates’ $113 billion — has thrown shade at his fellow tech billionaires. Last year he called the world’s richest man, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, a “copycat” for pursuing a similar goal with his Blue Origin rocket company as Musk does with SpaceX.
