CALABAR—The All Progressives Congress, APC, Cross River State, has rejected the governorship and state House of Assembly elections results in the state, alleging discrepancies in figures.
APC also alleged that its state Secretary and deputy governorship candidate were held hostage throughout the exercise by the military.
Also, the governorship candidate of Youth Democratic Party, YDP, in the state, Mr. Emmanuel Undie, has rejected the result of last Saturday’s governorship and state House of Aassembly elections, contending that the exercise was fraught with widespread irregularities which makes the outcome unacceptable.
Undie said: “The security agencies performed a yeoman’s job by intimidating and stopping people from going out to vote.”
He said the level of rigging shows that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, was incapable of conducting free and free elections because apart from staff of the commission colluding with politicians to thumb print ballots, they also manipulated technology to favour the ruling party in the state.
On its part, APC’s acting Chairman of the party, Sir John Ochala, disassociated itself from the results announced by INEC.
Ochalla said: “The APC Cross River State hereby informs the public that we dissociate ourselves from this rape on our democracy in the name of governorship and state House of Assembly elections.
“We are all witnesses to the daylight robbery of our collective will and mandate, lead by Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in active connivance with the INEC and security operatives.”
