…They should be sure of claims, work with us—Police

JALINGO—Christian Association of Nigeria in Taraba State has raised the alarm, alleging plots by some politicians to plunge the state into further crisis by destabilising the 2019 general election.

The state Chairman of CAN, John Aina, raised the alarm, noting that the killings in some parts of Lau and Ardo Kola Local Government areas of the state were parts of the plans, which, according to him, have led to the displacement of about 15,000 people in 49 towns and villages.

He said: “Information reaching us indicate that there is a renewed plot by some sponsored elements within and outside the state to destabilise peace and cause people to flee as 2019 elections draw closer.

“This time around the plan covers the whole state, unlike in 2015 when southern and central zones were the targets.”

Responding, Taraba State Commissioner of Police, David Akinremi, explained that the command, in synergy with other security agencies, have mobilised enough personnel to the affected areas.

He noted that flash points have been spotted and safeguarded ahead of the polls for quick response to distress calls.

According to the Police boss, “we are firmly in control and working with other security agencies in the state to ensure that security in the state is not put in jeopardy.

“We want to appeal to CAN, as a religious body, to cross-check their facts before making hasty statements.

“If there are things CAN or any other religious body in feel are not right, our doors are always opened to them for consultation and input on how to improve whatever situation they feel could lead to breach or threat to security in any part of the state.”
