Nigeria would be looking to grab two juicy positions in ITU Telecom world 2018 slated for September in Durban, South Africa.
The two positions are: ITU Administrative Council and Director, Bureau for Telecommunications Development (BDT).
Nigerian born, Switzerland based Business development and finance specialist, Mr William Ijeh is contesting for the latter position. Ijeh is Strategic planning &Business development and financial analyst in ITU – a position he has held since October 1997.
He has also been the Management of Group Finance and Project Development and implementation, in Geneva Area, Switzerland -a job which entailed project development and field implementation, monitoring and assessment.
The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, Executive Vice Chairman, Prof Umar Danbatta, In April, presented Nigeria’s position at a dinner for ITU Secretary General, Mr. Houlin Zhao, Officials of the Global Regulatory Bodies, Ministers, Regulators and Global dignitaries in Geneva Switzerland.
He reminded the high profile audience that Nigeria is one of the highest financial contributors to ITU in the African region and is a major player in ITU Telecom World activities for many years and therefore solicits for support towards the country’s aspirations.
Meanwhile, riding on the crest of the successes the country recorded in the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) Telecom World 2017, hosted in South Korea, Nigeria has inaugurated the planning committee for the 2018 edition of the event holding in Durban, South Africa in September.
The theme of ITU Telecom World 2018 is “Innovation for smarter Digital Development”.
This year’s participation will focus on attracting new investors to the much sought broadband segment of the sector. These investors will deepen Nigeria’s quest for pervasive broadband whose penetration level currently stands at 22%.
