PROFILE: BARR. (MRS) JOSEPHINE ADA KACHIKWU
Barr. (Mrs.) Josephine Ada Kachikwu, nee Odoe, the flamboyant Executive Chairman of the Delta State House of Assembly Service Commission, is a multi talented woman. She was born into the family of Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Odoe of Ishiekpe Quarters in Issele-uku, Delta State, Nigeria.
Growing up, she developed interest in the paramedical area of medicine and went all out to train as a midwife. Practicing the midwifery profession gave her satisfaction, but as a wife of one of the greatest Jurists in the defunct Bendel State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Late Justice Francis Okafor Kachikwu, she was informally learning Law from her Late husband without knowing. This informal education developed to a stage that Law, as a profession, became her new found love.
She pulled out of her paramedical career and went the whole hog to study law in one of the premier universities in Nigeria, the University of Benin, Benin City, Edo state, where she bagged a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree and thereafter, proceeded to the Nigerian Law School, Abuja, to cap it up with Barrister-At-Law (B.L.).
With the Law qualification in her kitty, along with her professional midwifery credentials, she was now burning with desire for entirely new challenges; but politics beckoned to her more than any of the rest. This was simply because it was her belief that politics would give her a better opportunity to emancipate her people economically, politically, socially, and even culturally. Consequently, she went into partisan politics and this decision paid off handsomely. Today, she has successfully contributed to the political awareness of her people, mobilized them to contribute positively to nation-building.
Side by side with politics, she ventured into the primary occupation of her people which is farming, but this time, in the modern way. Today, she is the proud owner of the largest piggery in Delta state. She also has expanded the project to include five plantations of arable and cash crops namely banana, tomatoes, pawpaw, oil palm.
