ENUGU- FEDERAL Road Safety Commission, FRSC, Ozalla Unit Command, in Nkanu West Local Council, Enugu State, weekend, celebrated the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Commission with a dinner and award night in Enugu.
While delivering a speech at the event, the Unit Commander, ACC Austin Ekele stated that “the Federal Road Safety has since its establishment operated in line with global standards. Bringing down the trend of crashes and reducing fatalities on the road through robust public education on the use of the highways.
“Before its establishment in 1988, traffic situation in Nigeria could be described as very chaotic with high rate of road traffic crashes resulting in human and material loses.
“For the 30 years of selfless service to humanity, the FRSC has caved a niche for herself in areas of public enlightenment, credible enforcement and various projects and programs like Emergency Call Centre, Road Transport Safety Standardization Scheme, Driving School Standardization Scheme that has given Nigeria the leading statues in traffic management in Africa,” he said
He also praised all staff of FRSC in the unit for their dedication to duty, while praising who he said deserved the awards they received.
“Let me use this opportunity to appreciate all staff and special Marshals of the Command for their selfless service these past years, most especially for their contribution to the success of this programme today,” he said.
In an interview, the Divisional Crime Officer, Agbani Police Division, Lawrence Mamah, praised the Corps for their contribution to the safety of lives and properties along Nigerian roads.
He assured the continued support of the police force to the command stating that “a healthy relationship between the police and road safety will tremendously enhance the proficiency of the agencies”.
Speaking to newsmen, the traditional ruler of Etiti Ozalla community in Nkanu West Local Council, Igwe Donald Nwochi, expressed delight with the way FRSC has operated over they years.
He said that “though there could be some challenges in the operation of the Corps, they should be supported by all Nigerians”.
In his reaction, the winner of the Best Staff of the years awards, Mr Oforkansi Chinonso Udeh, thanked the unit for recognizing his efforts in the command and assured that it will spur him to be more dedicated to duty.
The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) was established in 1988. The FRSC is the lead agency in Nigeria on road safety administration and management.
