FOUR years ago, Chief Victor Umeh, the second national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APGA, was all about in closed door strategic sessions and in the open mobilising for Chief Willie Obiano. He acted in conjunction with Mr. Peter Obi, the then governor of the state. Four years after, much water has passed under the bridge. Their common friend, Peter Obi is now out of APGA and is believed to be working in direct opposite of what he did four years ago.

Umeh has also stepped down as national chairman of the party and was a contestant for the Anambra Central Senatorial seat. With the PDP and APC ruled out of the contest, Umeh is almost a shoo-in, but he has had to contend with external forces who have delayed his emergence as a Distinguished Senator. Remarkably, Umeh has been under the radar despite his impressive political stature garnered over the years having played crucial roles in all governorship elections since after the 1999 elections.

Few believe that Umeh, a former spokesman of the PDP, would just lay fallow in the midst of the unfolding intrigues in the state. Some political pundits have suggested that he may have a role or the other in the unfolding intrigues in the state. Some have also alleged that the former national chairman may not be happy over the way that he had been left to fight his Senate case almost alone.

However, there are suggestions that he may be appointed as the Director-General of the Obiano campaign. If that happens, then that will help to douse all the claims of a conspiracy around the solitude and silence of Umeh.
