BENIN—GOVERNOR Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has vowed to ensure that the problems relating to Local Government administration in the state and their unpaid salaries and arreas are sorted out constitutionally.
Obaseki, who disclosed this when he received the state executive members of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, who paid him a solidarity visit, lamented salaries owed to council workers in the state, saying the state government would review the situation and come up with better ideas that would help stop such problems in future.

According to him, “We want our local governments to be self-sustaining and not always looking for bail out. I do not want a situation where staff of councils will be owed salaries for months. That is not fair because these people also have families to feed. So, it is a serious problem that must be looked into seriously”.
He further admonished the union leaders to always embrace dialogue in dealing with industrial issues, disclosing that the state government had a bill before the state House of Assembly, that would harmonize taxes and levies in the state.
