Lagos—A 25-year-old man, Idowu Mohammed, who allegedly defiled a 13-year old girl, was yesterday docked at a Surulere Chief Magistrate’s Court in Lagos.
Mohammed, who resides at 25, Karounwi Street, Abule-Egba area of Lagos, pleaded not guilty to a count charge of defilement.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Anthonia Osayande, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on November 11 at 25, Karounwi Street, Abule-Egba, Lagos.
She said that the defendant, who resides in the same area with the 13-year-old girl, called her to his apartment and sent her on an errand.
“On her return, the defendant defiled her,” Osayande said, adding that the offence contravened Sections 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The Chief Magistrate, Ipaye Nwachukwu, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She said that one of the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendant, while the other should be a community leader.
She added that the two sureties must provide evidence of tax payment to Lagos State government and their addresses should be verified by the court.
The Magistrate adjourned the case till January 31, 2017, pending advice from the Department of Public Prosecutions.
