Suspected cultist arrested while on vengance mission

LAGOS—Operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, have arrested a suspected cultist, who was on a revenge mission along LASU-Isheri Road, Lagos.

Recovered from the suspect, identified as Annas Mohammed, was a locally-made pistol.

However, the Kaduna-born suspect, during an interaction with Vanguard, denied being a cultist.

He explained that he was on a mission to avenge the attack on his younger brother by members of the Aiye confraternity, when he was arrested.

According to him, “members of Aiye attacked my brother and shot him on the leg two weeks ago. They claimed he was going out with a member’s girlfriend. As I speak, my brother is still in the hospital receiving treatment.

“As if that was not enough, these cult members stormed our area at LASU Close and attacked some persons. When I was told that the person who shot my brother was among the invaders, I decided to avenge my brother’s attack.

“I went in company of one Obalende. The gun we went with was his. He said he bought it in Cotonou, when he came back from prison. I was arrested at NEPA Bus Stop, while Obalende escaped. I am not a cultist and never would want to be.”

Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command, who paraded the suspects at the command’s headquarters in Ikeja, said that he was among 19 others arrested last week in different parts of the state.

He said that four different types of arms, five vehicles and charms were recovered from the suspects, adding that they would all be charged to court.
