ABUJA—ThE non-appointment of a substantive Post Master General, PMG, for the Nigeria Postal Agency, NIPOST, about 10 months after the former PMG proceeded on retirement, is now causing ripples as workers have started complaining that the entire organisation had become rudderless.

President, Senior Staff Association, Nigeria Postal Agency, NIPOST, an affiliate of the Trade Union Congress, TUC, Comrade Gabriel Imafidon, lamented that the non-appointment of a substantive PMG had become a thing of concern as no serious decisions had been taken since the PMG proceeded on retirement, although government had on two occasions made appointments in acting capacity.

He said: “The delay is affecting the organisation and staff moral nationwide. We want the appointment within the shortest time, we are getting tired of waiting, we are rudderless with no direction.”

Imafidon also urged the Federal Government to clear all impediments militating against the implementation of the Stamp Duty policy.

“The government stands to benefit a lot from the Stamp Duty Act. If government wants to generate revenue, Stamp Duty Act can help the economy in this era of economic diversification,” he said.

Imafidon also decried the low patronage of government to NIPOST services and appealed to the Federal Government to ensure that NIPOST was included in the current policy of supporting made-in-Nigeria goods, by directing all agencies of government to patronise NIPOST in the movement of goods and services.

“We have the reach across the country for effective delivery as we have post offices all over the country. We have the facility that can deliver. This change mantra of the Federal Government should come to this area,” he stated.
