lagos—Six days after 34 people were confirmed dead and 13 others rescued after a five-storey building under construction collapsed at Lekki, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency LASEMA, has reacted to insinuations that some victims were still trapped under the rubble after the rescue operation was concluded.

LASEMA General Manager Mr. Michael Akindele said the Agency in company of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, and representatives of the Nigeria Police Force have on Wednesday 9th of March 2016 declared the operation completed at about 7.20 pm after a thorough search by all the emergency responders that no victim was trapped under the rubble.

This followed the alarm by one Ezekiel Musa, a security personnel in charge of the site, who said at least 12 victims were still trapped underneath the rubble dead or alive.

The LASEMA boss said when the possibility was raised, the emergency response team of the agency visited the site yesterday, at about 9.30 am to establish the fact that the operation has ended with nobody still trapped under the rubble.

He said the place has been sealed by the state government, while the only security man on the site, identified as Isaac Atete, denied giving such report.

Akindele also noted that the state government and the security operatives are presently carrying out further investigations on the matter and would come out with detailed report after the investigations.
