LAGOS—The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, and the Open Society Initiative for West Africa, OSIWA, yesterday urged Nigerians to continue to demand accountability from their leaders at all levels of government. The request was made at a public hearing in Lagos on local and community level corruption organized by the two leading civil society organizations.

LAGOS—An Ikeja High court presided by Justice Kazeem Alogba yesterday struck out the perjury suit, brought against new Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro. The court, sequel to an argument canvassed by Obanikoro’s counsel, Mr Gbenga Ojo threw out the Originating Summons by the three plaintiffs, Micheal Babatunde Ogun, Suleiman Olayinka Saheed and Wasiu Adeniyi Odusanya on the grounds that the documentary evidences tendered before the court are not admissible in law.

LAGOS—A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, yesterday, granted an order of substituted means in the suit seeking to re-open investigations into the murder of a former governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Lagos State, late Funsho Williams. One of the detainees in the murder trial, Bashir Junaid, in the suit is seeking an order of mandamus compelling the Inspector-General of Police to re-open investigations into how the late PDP stalwart was murdered in cold blood.

Lagos—Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, said yesterday that hate speeches by politicians would undermine the country’s electoral process and democracy. Fashola said this when a delegation of the Council of the Wise, led by its Coordinator, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari paid him a courtesy visit in Lagos. The council of the wise is a think-tank committed to peaceful and acceptable elections in Nigeria.

After making a comprehensive statement on what he knew about the failed Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Housing Scheme, Managing Director of Kriston Lally EPC Nigeria Ltd, Mustapha Umar Madawaki, was yesterday granted conditional bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. One of the conditions given Madawaki for bail was to produce a surety, who must be a director with the Federal Civil Service.

ENUGU—Suspected Fulani herdsmen, yesterday, killed Tamgbo Ogueji, a member of the traditional rulers’ cabinet at Eke community in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State. The deceased, aged 85, was allegedly shot in his house in the early hours over an undisclosed issue.

ABEOKUTA—Magistrate Martins Akinyemi of an Abeokuta Magistrate’s Court, yesterday, ordered a 24-year-old man, Michael Oyejide, remanded in Ibara Prison custody for allegedly raping his 18-year-old friend, Morenike Ajayi, to death.
