WARRI—NATIONAL Coordinator, Concerned Deltans for Good Governance, Olorogun Francis Vevakpor, has accused Prof. Attahiru Jega, Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, of having an ulterior agenda against the Niger Delta region.

Vevakpor said that the introduction of the card reader machine and Jega’s insistence on its use were a grand design to marginalise the oil rich region. Vevakpor, in a chat with Vanguard in Effurun, Delta State, said: “Jega has an ulterior agenda against the Niger Delta as the introduction of the card reader is to undo us. Electoral materials do not get to the creek communities until 11a.m., or 12p.m. So, if accreditation will end at 1p.m., how many people can be accredited to vote?

“If it takes three minutes or thereabout to accredit one person, it means that only 20 persons will be accredited in an hour. Therefore, in the normal five hours accreditation period only 100 persons will be accredited out of about 350. This is a clear ploy to ensure that the region loses out so that their aim will be achieved. I call on all well meaning Niger Deltans to come out and protest this injustice.”
