HOPEFUL of victory, the Lagos PDP Women Vanguard has urged the governorship candidate of the party in the state, Mr Jimi Agbaje not to forget women when he assumes office, saying that a number of agenda should be implemented to take care of womenfolk. Making this call in a speech is Mrs Abiola Folami Ada, President of Lagos PDP Women Vanguard at a general assembly of the group convened in Surulere recently.
Mrs Ada, in her address, noted that the PDP Women Vanguard in Lagos is a mouthpiece for women in the political arena and those otherwise engaged. She stated that the organization exists basically to empower women, and listed vocational training for unemployed women, especially housewives and mothers as one of its achievements.
Another achievement of the organization, according to her, is the formation of a co-operative and credit thrift society which members subscribe to, to access funds through contributions. She urged that Lagos markets be returned to women, and demanded that at least 35% of all appointments should go to women. She also listed free education for children at primary and secondary levels, day care/creches in Lagos markets, as well as decent toilets, while multiple taxation and unlawful trials of women should also stop.
