Secretary-General of the Nigeria Football Federation, Mohammed Sanusi yesterday told the women national team, the Super Falcons that the federation was not happy with their performance at the FIFA Women World Cup, which will enter the semi-final stage after today’s matches.

The Super Falcons booked an early flight home after they lost two games to Australia 2-0 and the USA 1-0. Their 3-3 draw against Sweden was the highpoint of their stay in Winnipeg and Vancouver where the group D matches were held.

Dr. Sansui, while welcoming back the Super Falcons in Abuja argued that since the junior team reached the final of the FIFA Under-20 World Cup twice in 2010 and 2014, the Super Falcons could have also done well to reach the crucial stages of the 2015 World Cup.

“The NFF and indeed Nigerians are not happy that the team could not make it beyond the group stage of the competition. Sincerely speaking, the NFF believed Canada 2015 was the opportunity for the Super Falcons to show how much progress has been made in women’s football in Nigeria,” said Dr. Sanusi.

However, he added that the NFF was not discouraged by the outing.

The NFF scribe could not however fool Nigerians as he forgot that the Super Falcons played only one friendly match against Canada, ahead of the tournament. Their preparations was poor compared to those of their group opponents who are  rated higher than the Falcons.
