Minna—Speaker of Niger State House of Assembly, Usman Adamu has been removed from office and a new speaker sworn in to replace him.
Adamu, however, insisted that he was still the speaker of the state House of Assembly, while the leadership of the House remains the valid leaders of the House.
It was gathered that the removal of speaker was to pave the way for the impeachment of the state governor, Dr Muazu Babangida Aliyu.
He spoke in an interview with newsmen shortly after his removal, describing the processes leading to his removal as illegal and unconstitutional.
However the trouble in the House started as early as 7:30am, when over 200 armed policemen and other security agents were drafted to the Assembly complex.
The security agents who took positions at strategic corners of the House and prevented some members from entering the complex.
Some members of the House who defied the armed security men at the gate forced their way into the assembly complex after damaging the key and the chain used in sealing the gate.
The ensuing rowdiness which lasted for over an hour later led to a House session with 19 out of 25 members in attendance.
Hon. Gana immediately nominated the speaker temporal, Hon. Isah Kawu as the new speaker house, Hon. Bello Ahmed (Agwara) Deputy speaker, Hon. Yusuf Kure(Paikoro) Majority leader, while Hon. Sa’adatu Kolo(Mashehu) Chief Whip.
