PORT HARCOURT— RIVERS State Police Command has denied the allegation by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that it planned to frame President Goodluck Jonathan, state governorship candidate of the party, Mr Nyesom Wike and some other chieftains of the party in a phoney crime, using one of its branches, C4I.

Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr Ahmad Muhammad, in a statement, said the C4I was a creation of the state Police Command in 2007 to tackle challenges of cultism, kidnapping and other related crimes, stressing that it had not deviated from that mandate.

The Police image maker said there was no truth in the allegation by the Rivers State chapter of the PDP.

He said: “It is on record that C4I is a well-trained operational unit of the command established in 2007 specifically to tackle the rising wave of violent crimes in the state. The unit is under the strict control and supervision of the command’s Directorate of Operations and has recorded huge successes in crime prevention and fighting in the state, particularly in terms of rescue of kidnapped victims, arrest of suspected vicious criminals, recovery of firearms/ammunition, stolen vehicles, illicit drugs and narcotics, feats which stand the unit out.

“As a matter of fact, the command as a responsible law enforcement agency or any of its units, has no plan whatsoever to abduct, assassinate or frame and arrest leaders or members of any political party in Rivers State or to orchestrate political violence, chaos and anarchy in the state. Therefore, there is no iota of truth in the allegations.

“The Commissioner of Police until now is not aware of the allegations. However, he has ordered an in-depth investigation into the allegations.”
