The Police in Lagos have arrested two suspected members of a robbery gang that had been terrorizing residents of Apapa and Wilmer Crescent areas of the state, just when they had perfected plans to attack a bank.
The suspects, identified as Ugochukwu Samuel, 24, and Saturday Akpan, 20, reportedly operate as early as 5am, dispossessing their victims, majority of who were traders and defenceless workers, of cash and other valuables.
When arrested, they were discovered to have been harassing their victims with toy guns.
Before their arrest, one of them, Akpan, who hails from Akwa Ibom State, said he was dissatisfied with the loot from their operations, and decided to raise the bar to bank robbery.
As a first step, he reportedly sold the idea to his roommate, Samuel, who bought it and they sought the assistance of renowned robbers around Ajegunle on how to acquire weapons.
Unfortunately for them, they were arrested on the day the robbery operation was supposed to take place.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Akpan had worked as a cleaner at Creek Road, Apapa branch of the bank he had chosen to rob.
