About two people were feared dead, while nine others were severely injured, yesterday, in a multiple auto crash that occurred at Toll gate area of Ogun State.
According to eyewitnesses’ account, the auto crash involved a cement-laden trailer belonging to a popular cement manufacturer in Lagos, which rammed into five other vehicles all heading for Ota area of the state.
The accident was said to have occurred around 10.34a.m., when the fully loaded trailer, with number plate XA 364 JKB, allegedly lost control and rammed into a car with number plate LND 353 XJ; Land Cruiser, YAB 103 RU; Paragon, KSF 537 XK; Infinity Jeep, GGE 447 BS and another Paragon, AAA 449 XN.
The victims were two drivers of affected vehicles, while those injured include the truck driver, commuters and passersby at the bus stop, who scampered for safety on noticing the danger.
The trailer was said to be so severely damaged that it was smashed before the victims could be rescued.
An eyewitness, who prefered anonymity, relayed the accident to Vanguard via a telephone conversation.
He said the trailer loaded from Ibeshe area of Ikorodu and was heading for Ota when a break failure occurred and it rammed into five other vehicles.
However, the situation was brought under control through the combined effort of officials of Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, and Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, TRACE.
They immediately commenced a rescue mission and took the victims to a nearby hospital.
