Schools’ resumption: Federal Govt Colleges in Rivers remain shut

By Jimitota Onoyume

PORT HARCOURT—The three Federal Government Colleges in Rivers State did not resume along with other schools in the state yesterday.

It would be recalled that due to the outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease, EVD, in the state, the state government postponed resumption of primary and secondary schools to October 8, when it was sure that there was no trace of the dreaded disease anymore in the state.

Before the outbreak of the disease, teachers of the Federal Government Colleges all over the country had been on strike over issues relating to entitlements.

Students of the Federal Government College, Ahoada, Abuloma and Rumuokoro, who went to school yesterday, were not allowed into the premises as they were told that senior staff of the schools were on strike.

In another development, long queues surfaced yesterday around a few filling stations selling petrol. There had been scarcity of the product in the state capital in the last three days.
