Sapele— Primary school teachers in Delta State, under the aegis of Basic Education Staff Association of Nigeria, BESAN, Delta State Chapter, have given a 14-day ultimatum to Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, within which to address their demands, which include salary arrears, among others, or risk a state-wide protest.
President of BESAN, Mr. Gabriel Adogbeji, who addressed newsmen, yesterday in Sapele, said the planned protest had been communicated to the governor, through the office of the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Professor Patrick Muoboghare.
According to Adogbeji, their reasons for the planned protest, slated for October 2, include non-payment of nine months harmonisation arrears, non-payment of promotion arrears from 2006 to 2009 and non-payment 27.5 percent arrears.
Others include non-release of promotion letters to graduate teachers, non-remittance of N2.9 billion pension funds to their pension funds administrators from May 2008 to March, 2011, among others.
