Man arrested for ‘abducting’ traffic warden in Ogun

ABEOKUTA – The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a  man, Tosin Owolola, 27, for allegedly  abducting a traffic warden at Iyana Mortuary in Abeokuta.

The   Police   Public Relations Officer in the state, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the incident occurred  Saturday when  the traffic warden was at his duty post in Abeokuta and flagged down the man who was driving his car against the traffic.

Adejobi said: “The suspect hit the warden which made him (the warden) to fall on the bonnet of the car. The suspect kept on driving for a distance of more than four kilometres with the traffic wardenon his bonnet.

“It took the efforts of members of the public and other policemen on patrol, who were called on distress, to rescue the traffic warden from the man in the Kemta Idi Aba jungle,where he drove into.

“The suspect, who was heavily drunk, is a technician with National Diploma in Business Studies from the Lagos State Polytechnic, and hails from Abeokuta South Local Government Area of the state.

“The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State, CP Ikemefuna Okoye, has directed that a  thorough investigation be conducted into the matter and that the suspect be subjected to  medical examination before he would be charged to serve as deterrent to others who are fond of assaulting security agents on duty.

“The Commissioner of Police also warned that such act will no longer be tolerated for it’s the duty of the command to see to the welfare of its personnel.
“He urged the general public to accord adequate respect to all security agents who are properly deployed.“
