ADO EKITI—The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ekiti State over the modalities to be adopted to pick its governorship candidate for the June 12 governorship election has taken a new turn as former chairmen of the party in the local governments  insist that the party should adopt primary rather than consensus.

No fewer than 32 gubernatorial aspirants have emerged in the party but the aspirants differ on the mode of picking governorship candidate.
Some of the aspirants are in favour of conducting  primary, while others are advocating for consensus candidate.

A statement by Chief J. A Adeosun on behalf of 34 out of 36 former local government chairmen in Ado Ekiti, asked the leadership of the party to ignore the ranting of some of the disgruntled members of the party who according to him, were afraid of subjecting themselves to internal democracy of the party.

Adeosun who was the former chairman, Ijero Local Government said as party leaders, they owe it a duty to protect the constitution of the party and uphold the sanctity of the rule of law.
The PDP leaders, however, urged the National Executive Council, NEC, of the party to disregard the current move to frustrate it by some disgruntled politicians, urging it to go  ahead with its plan by conducting primary.
