We’ve to follow his teachings by fasting, praying —Alhaji Lukman Akande

The true commemoration of the birth and life of the Prophet Mohammed (s.a.w) is not reflected in the lavish processions and festivities. On the contrary, for a Muslim to truly celebrate the birth of the beloved of God is to follow his teachings and emulate his lifestyle.

God commanded Prophet Muhammad to “Say, if you love God, follow me, (then) will God love you and forgive you your faults. And God is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful” (3:32).

Unfortunately, many Muslims have forgotten what the Prophet taught but instead resorted to malign his name by confusing people and  justifying their actions and attributing same to the teachings of Islam and its Prophet.

The best way to celebrate the birth of Mohammed is not by killing rams or traveling here and there but to follow all his teachings. During the days of Prophet Mohammed, the first Muslims fasted and had special prayers.

It’s right to celebrate the birth of the prophet —Alhaji Waheed Olowo

EVery 12th of Rabiu-ul-Awwal is a special date in the
sight of Muslims and January not only being the third month in the Islamic calendar but also special because we celebrate the birth of a great prophet of God.

Prophet Mohammed is our ladder to God and as such, there is nothing wrong about celebrating his life.  During such occasions, it is right to read his biography and reflect upon his characters.

As Muslims, we should learn how to achieve nearness to God from him. An acceptable way to celebrate the greatest gift to mankind is by showing compassion and kindness towards our fellow human beings and the creatures of God.

We should also use this special day to pray for past prophets of Allah and also pray for our country, Nigeria. In many Islamic countries, Maolud is a national holiday and it is celebrated as a day equivalent to the two Muslim festivals, Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha.

For this reason it is also called “Eid-e-Maolud.”  My advice to Nigerians is treat everybody around with love so that the society will be a better place for all of us.

It’s a special day for worship — Barr Abdulazeez Ajidele

THE birth of Prophet Mohammed is the best thing that have happened to humanity which is the reason for the yearly celebration. Although, it was never an occasion during the time of the prophet himself and also a pity that many people do not get it right.

The celebration is not about merry making but a special day of worship. It is meant to serve as a reminder for Muslims to follow the exemplary life of prophet Mohammed.

Allah in his holy book Chapter 33 said; “…  Prophet Mohammed is an epitome of every good thing, so every Muslim should see him as a role model. However, the best way to celebrate the birth of Mohammed is to give alms and listen to teachings that will boost our faith.
