ABUJA—The Federal Government yesterday inaugurated a National Steering Committee to tackle fundamental challenges confronting basic and secondary education in the country.
The committee is a creation of the State Education Programme Investment Project, SEPIP.
Supervising Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike, while inaugurating the committee in Abuja, said it was created to address basic education system, in terms of improvement in teachers’ deployment and availability in the rural areas.
Wike, who was represented by Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr MacJohn Nwaobiala, said the SEPIP project was created to last for four years.
He said: “The project would also improve teacher availability in the core subject areas such as, English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Integrated Science in Junior Secondary School.
