WARRI—EXPERTS in the civil engineering profession have blamed the incessant collapse of structures and failed projects in Nigeria on corruption, lack of knowledge transfer from veterans in civil/structural engineering to younger engineers.

This came as the  new chairman of Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers, NICE, Warri Chapter, Engr. Okeke Donald Chijioke, appealed to members of his executive and practising engineers in the area to work together to advance the course of civil and structural engineering in Delta State.

The experts, who spoke at the 2013 NICE Annual Seminar with the theme: Management and Value Optimisation of Civil Engineering Projects in Nigeria, held at Ugborikoko, Effurun, identified lack of technicians, craftsmen and other low cadre manpower in engineering as another major impediment to the practice of civil and structural engineering in the country.
