Thus today (September 4), this assembly is now convened to set a new order in place for us, Iwere people, which will supersede the old one that has been in operation since the founding of this kingdom.
I solemnly confess and testify that there is only One God. He is the Lord, Our God. The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the fathers of Israel, he is the Creator of all people and things (visible and invisible), all worlds and realms, kings, thrones, dominions, principalities, powers, seas and abyss.
It was with the full knowledge of the Itskeiri people that I was doing so by the grace of God, for His blessings upon our people and for the glory of God. We also saw and understood it to be God’s special favour in giving us a second chance to be devoted to Him as the only God, who is worthy of all worship.
I also pledged that as signified by the cross of Jesus Christ that is at the top of our crown, the Iwere kingdom would be under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Shortly afterwards, we have series of solemn assemblies before our God at which we renounced all the ungodly acts of our ancestors, including slavery, infanticide and other forms of bloodshed, idolatry and ancestral worship.
I also repent for the name and title of ‘Ogiame’ that my ancestors and I have borne, as it connotes our allegiance to Umalokun and the other deities of the sea, all of which are false gods.
Today, I renounce our allegiance to Umalokun and other gods of the sea, land and sky.
Today, I apply the Blood of Jesus to fulfil and dissolve the ancient covenant, since all its requirements have been fully met and paid for in full by the Blood of Jesus.
On behalf of the royal bloodline, the throne, the people and kingdom of Iwere land, I publicly enter into a new covenant with God, the Creator through His Son, Jesus Christ and His Blood, the covenant of life, freedom and blessings. The sacrifice of his covenant has been provided once and for all by the Blood of Jesus Christ.
As a priest in the Order of Melchizedek, I use the authority of the name of Jesus and the power of the Blood of Jesus to destroy all ancient and new altars in Iwere land not raised up to the Lord by the laws governing the new covenant of life in Christ.
Henceforth, I submit and present the title ‘Ogiame’ to God, the Creator, who made the seas and rules over all. Therefore, no Olu or person may bear the title or name that now belongs to God.
Henceforth, the present Itsekiri national anthem which had perpetuated the worship of the king has also been submitted and presented to God, the Creator. The anthem will now be sung in praise and worship of God.
I nullify the tokens of libation poured on land and seas or sprinkled into the air in Iwere land.
I frustrate all sacrifices of wine, blood, food, water, kolanuts and other items (known and unknown) offered in Iwere land.
In conformity with the new covenant through the Blood of Jesus, I release the royal bloodline, the chiefs of the Iwere kingdom, the Iwere people and land, waters and atmosphere of Iwere kingdom from all ties to all other spiritual covenants and agreements,” he proclaimed.
