Federal Capital Territory administration (FCTA) has warned real estate developers to stop on going development of buildings along Abuja airport road despite the temporal suspension placed on further demolition exercise in that axis.

Acting Director of Development Control of the FCT Administration, Mr. Hamza Saliu Madaki, who represented the minister at a discussion forum organised by Real Estate Development Association of Nigeria (REDAN) in Abuja recently, promised that the sanity of the Abuja Master Plan must be upheld at all cost.

“The order from the National Assembly asking Development Control to suspend the planned demolition of 37 estates is only temporal. We will continue with the demolition as soon as the issues raised are resolved with members,” the Minister stated.

He warned developers in the different estates within the FCT to stop work pending when the issues raised are resolved. “All estate developers within the FCT must stop work pending when we resolve all the issues raised. Please tell you member that could still be building to stop now in their own interest,” Madaki cautioned.

He advised developers to obey the rule of law in the FCT and endeavor to confirm from development control before going ahead to buy land before they commence building. “If these stringent measures are not put in place, the Master Plan of the FCT will be bastardised. Some developers are giving us headache by illegally building houses in lands that are not duly allocated to them.

If due process had been followed, we would not have gone through that ordeal. If the developers of Minanuel Estate had sought for approval, we would not have demolished it because that estate was not supposed to have been erected there in the first place.
