BENIN—Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Edo State chapter, yesterday, set up a three-man interim committee led by Mr Kelvin Okonzuwa of News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, to run the affairs of the union until an election was conducted.
Other members of the committee are Messers Courage Afia and Friday Isewede. The congress took the decision following the expiration of the tenure of the Friday Obanor-led administration.
During the congress, two of the chairmanship aspirants, Desmond Agbama and Rowland Osakwe, described their alleged disqualification from the chairmanship contest as fraudulent and urged the National leadership of NUJ to properly screen all the aspirants, saying that disqualifying the other aspirants in order to pave way for the immediate past chairman to run unopposed was an attempt to deprive them of their right as members of NUJ.
