ADO-EKITI—The dispute between Ekiti State Government and the state branch of Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, over the appointment of new judges into the state’s judiciary has taken a new turn as the body has asked its members serving in the State Judicial Serving Commission, SJSC, to resign their membership from the commission or risk sanction.
It will be recalled that Dele Omotoso , Olukayode Ogundana and Emmanuel Adesodun were recommended by the National Judicial Council, NJC, for appointment as judges of the state High Court, but Governor Kayode Fayemi had only sworn-in one of them.
At a briefing in Ado Ekiti, yesterday, the NBA Chairman, Owoseeni Ajayi, said it had got the backing of the NBA President, Mr Joseph Daodu and other relevant stakeholders of the Bar to go ahead with its action and ensure that normalcy was restored in the matter.
He advised the governor against politicization of the issue, arguing that Omotoso and Ogundana appearing for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, at the election petition tribunal, did not in any way make them card-carrying members of the party.
He said: “In our humble opinion, our members serving on this Commission should step aside from the activities of the Commission pending the resolution of this imbroglio. They have been sufficiently humiliated and discredited as incompetent persons by the action of the Governor.”
