A rights group, Education Rights Campaign (ERC) has called on the Lagos State government and all student leaders and groups, human rights groups, to join in the struggle to re- instate the Lagos State University Students’ Union (LASUSU).

The group advised that the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) stands up and as a matter of urgency begin a campaign for the restoration of all banned unions and reinstatement of all victimized student unionists.

It could be recalled that  LASUSU was suspended on Tuesday, 22nd November, 2011 by the University management on the heels of students’ rejection of the hike in fees introduced by the Lagos State government and have since taken over the union secretariat and properties.

“The Lagos State University management and the Lagos State Government have had their ways with the outrageous fee hike but they cannot continue to suppress the rights of students to independent and democratic union. After four months of the suspension, the Students’ Union officers must be ready to defy the suspension in the event that the University Management fails to heed to this demand.” Ewebiyi noted.
