ABUJA—Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, has warned motorcyclists, otherwise known as Okada operators, to steer clear of Abuja city centre or risk arrest.

FCT Minister, Senator Bala Mohammed, who gave the warning in Abuja yesterday, also said no fewer than 3,000 traffic offenders had been arrested in less than two months.

Already, the minister said 503 commercial motorcycles had been confiscated for operating in the city centre, vowing that the raid on them would continue.

He said: “The FCT Administration during the period under considera-tion, confiscated 503 commercial motorcycles in the Federal Capital City,” and insisted that the raid will continue until Okada disappears from the roads of the Abuja city centre.”

Senator Mohammed said the 3,125 vehicles confiscated contravened traffic rules between January 1 and February 23.

He also said that within the period under review, 17 road crashes were recorded by the Directorate of Road Traffic Services of the FCT.

He reiterated that this measure was to instill discipline and to also serve as deterrence to other motorists on Abuja roads.
