MAKURDI – Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, and Federal Government have been asked to resolve their differences and save the nation’s university system from total collapse.

Addressing newsmen in Makurdi, Benue State capital, National President of National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Mr. Adakole Ochai, regretted that the current ASUU strike had created another round of dislocation in the nation’s university system.

He urged the Federal Government to quickly address the challenges confronting the nation’s tertiary education to douse the recurrent agitations by ASUU.

He said: “We are pleading with the contending parties in the dispute to please resolve their differences and ensure the immediate re-opening of our universities to enable our teeming Nigerian undergraduates return to their schools.”

NANS also condemned the recent hike in tuition fees at Lagos State University, LASU, advising the university authorities to reverse the increment which it described as anti-people.

NANS said: “We condemn in strong terms, the hike in fees at the LASU. The action is anti-students and repugnant to good conscience.

’’We urge the university authority to reverse the increase in the interest justice.”
