Unibadan to honour late Yar’Adua, Adeboye at convocation

Ibadan The late ex-President Umaru Yar’Adua and  the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Dr Enoch Adeboye, are among eminent Nigerians to be honoured at this year’s convocation and 63rd Foundation Day ceremonies of the University of Ibadan.

Also to be honoured are the first female Senior Advocate of  Nigeria, Chief Folake Solanke,  and the UN Under Secretary General, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari.

A release issued in Ibadan by the institution’s Registrar, Mrs Omotayo Ikotun, said on Friday that the convocation ceremonies would begin with a Jumat service at the Central Mosque of the institution.

It also said the convocation church service would hold at the Chapel of Resurrection in the institution on Sunday at 10.00 a.m.

The release said the convocation lecture would hold on Monday at the Trenchard Hall of the institution and would be delivered by the Minister of Agriculture, Dr Akinwumi Adesina, at 4.00 p.m.

The convocation lecture is entitled: “ Unleashing the Potential of Agriculture for Accelerated Food Security and Economic Growth in Nigeria’’.

The release also said the admission to  first degrees as well as award of  diplomas and certificates in the faculties of Arts, Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Dentistry, Basic Medical Sciences, Public Health, Pharmacy, Technology and Law would hold on Monday at the Trenchard Hall at 10 a.m.

The award of  first degrees, diplomas and certificates in the faculties of Agriculture and Forestry, Social Sciences, Education and Veterinary Medicine would hold at 10.a.m  on Tuesday at the Trenchard Hall of the university, the release added.

According to the release, the award of postgraduate diplomas and admission to higher degrees would hold on Wednesday at the Trenchard Hall at 10 a.m.

A convocation debate, “ NYSC should be scrapped,’’ would also hold at the Trenchard Hall on Wednesday  between the Faculty of Arts and that of Technology, while a command performance would hold at 5 p.m.

The 63rd Foundation Day, which would feature the award of honourary degrees to the four eminent Nigerians, would hold at 10 a.m. on Thursday at the Trenchard Hall.(NAN)
