Top officials of the Nigeria Football Federation, have reacted cautiously to claims by former Super Eagles coach, Chief Adegboyega Onigbinde, that he would soon quit his appointment into the NFF Technical Committee, because his views are not respected.
The NFF Technical Committee meeting is scheduled for Wednesday and members are alarmed at the claims of the Octogenarian football technocrat.
Glass House insiders, said the Modakeke High Chief has made credible contribution to Nigerian football and is at liberty to quit if he so desires.
“He has been twice Head Coach of the national team, has served severally in various committees, which has led him to be made a CAF and FIFA Instructor, recently he organized the ‘train the trainers’, programme on behalf of the NFF through FIFA, so how can such an individual claim his views are not respected”, one of the sources said.
It was further gathered that all meetings of the NFF Technical Committee, were attended by Chief Onigbinde, except the ones that were held when he lost his wife and he made useful contribution and at most meetings unanimous decisions were reached.
Further checks revealed that the root of the crisis is Onigbinde’s desire to be made the Technical Director of the NFF, a position formerly held by Kashimawo Laloko and later James Peter. “At 73, we cannot saddle him with such rigorous responsibilities, we feel we need a younger person and if as a result he wants to walk out of his appointment, we have no objections, except to wish him well in his future endeavours”
