Nigeria’s Football Federation (NFF) says a decision on the future of coach Samson Siasia will be taken next week.
The NFF’s technical committee discussed the coach’s fate on Thursday and now says it will forward its recommendations to the Executive Committee, which will meet next week.
Siasia is under huge pressure after the Super Eagles failed to qualify for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.
Meanwhile, Coach Siasia after being drilled by the technical committee members repeatedly begged for forgiveness and asked for a second chance.
“Let me use this opportunity once again to apologize to the Nigerian people over our failure to qualify for the 2012 Nations Cup. In fact I never believed we will not book that ticket but when things go wrong, you have to accept the blame because when they call me the ‘world Cup Coach’ I answered and now it is the other side of it. I should also accept it”.
Siasia said he was surprised at the attitude of some of his players in the match against Guinea adding that if they had converted some of the chances they got in the first half, they would have beaten the Guineans even before the start of the second half.
He promised Nigerians the type of national team they have been craving for if he kept his job after the threat of a sack by the NFF over the outcome of the Nations Cup qualifier.
He insisted “without discipline, there is nothing one can achieve. I have been called names unfortunately because I wanted to instil discipline into the team but that will not make the national team camp to be a lawless place since it is obvious that when we are disciplined, we tend to achieve more”.
The Super Eagles lost the opportunity of playing at next year’s continental tournament when the Syli Nationale of Guinea forced them to a 2-2 draw last Saturday. Guinea emerged tops in the group with 14 points while Nigeria came second with 11 points.
