Jos-Workers in Plateau State on Monday called off their over three weeks old strike to press for the implementation of the new Minimum Wage Act following an agreement with government on the matter.

The agreement which was signed by representatives of the state government and labour said government had agreed to implement the act for all its workers in the civil/public service.

According to the agreement, government agreed to raise its monthly wage bill within a basket allocation of N1.7 billion which will form the basis upon which to work out the salary structure of various categories of workers.

It added that the salary tables drawn up within the said financial limit would be implemented with effect from October 1 while the demand by organized labour on salary arrears and taxes would be forwarded to government for consideration.

The agreement was read to journalists by the state NLC Chairman, Comrade Jibrin Bancir flanked by the state Head of Service, Mr. Moses Gwom and other members of the government negotiating team.

The agreement also carried along workers of the state owned tertiary and health institutions who had declared separate industrial disputes based on different issues with government.The NLC called on workers to resume work immediately.
