Enyimba players protest signing-on fees

Players are up in arms with the management of Enyimba following what they claimed were arbitrary payments of their signing-on fees and bonuses.

The players received payments Wednesday, ranging from between N500,000 and N3m, but it was not all sweet at ‘The People’s Elephant’ as most of them complained about what they were paid.

“We really don’t know what percentage of our signing-on fees were paid and many of us are unclear of what yardsticks the officials used to pay us,” one of the players to MTNFootball.com

“The officials were not fair in their payments and this has caused many players to quit the training camp.”

Interestingly, one of the players who has deserted Enyimba is skipper Chiedozie Johnson, who pocketed the highest amount of three million Naira.

The Abia State government approved a cash payment of 100 million Naira to the team on the eve of their CAF Champions League semi-final second leg match against Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca. However, Enyimba failed to overturn a 1-0 loss they suffered at Wydad to reach the final of Africa’s foremost club competition.
