Ogun PDP faults Obasanjo, Daniel peace moves

ABEOKUTA— OGUN State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday faulted the reported moves to reconcile ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo and the immediate past governor of the state, Otunba Gbenga Daniel.

According to reports, Obasanjo was yet to accede to the peace overtures which necessitated the setting up of a purported peace panel to reconcile Daniel and the former President who have been at loggerheads.

Chairman of the state PDP, Chief Dayo Soremi, said in a statement that the peace panel was unnecessary, arguing that members of the Daniel-led Peoples Party of Nigeria, PPN, had voluntarily returned to the PDP after realising their mistakes.

He described the purported move as a ruse, and brainchild of the former Minister of Commerce and Industry, Senator Jubril Martins-Kuye.

He said: “We recall that in spite of the claims to being in the PDP, people like Lekan Mustapha, Dave Salako, among others worked for the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, and Labour Party, LP.”

“Having realised that they are without a base, they decided to reach out to their former soul-mate whom they had denigrated and apologised to the people for bringing him to the state. The so-called overture to Obasanjo is a ruse. All these people are like the proverbial leopard that cannot change its colours. They cannot be trusted.”

He said a critical look at the members of the so-called peace panel showed that they were hand-picked by the former minister ‘to serve his own selfish interest’.
