Pankshin (Plateau) – Five members of the Joint Special Task Force (STF) charged with maintaining security in Plateau sustained serious injuries in a motor accident on Saturday at the Vel area of Pankshin.

Eyewitnesses told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the accident occurred when the soldiers were pursuing a commercial motorcyclist they suspected of violating the restriction on movement during polling.

The vehicle, with registration number DHQ 605, lost control while negotiating a bend and somersaulted several times, according to the witnesses.

A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) who visited the Memorial Medical Centre, Pankshin, where the victims received treatment, reports that the soldiers suffered multiple cuts and fractures.

A doctor, who preferred to remain anonymous, said the victims were responding to treatment.

Mr Josiah Goyol, the Chairman of Pankshin Local Government, visited the injured men, promising to foot their medical bills.
