Activities on the Nigerian Stock Exchange resumed Monday, on a bearish note as the market indicators, the market capitalisation and the All share index both depreciated by 0.89 per cent each.
Specifically, the capitalisation declined by N71.45 billion to close at N7.872 trillion from N7.943 trillion, while the index dropped by 223.64 bases points to close at 24,639.74 points from 24,863.38 points.
Japaul Oil and Maritime Services Plc led 37 other stocks on the losers’ table, shedding five per cent or N0.08 to close at N1.52 per share, Dangote Flour Mills Plc followed with a depreciation of N0.85 to close at N16.17 per share and Cement Company of Northern Nigeria Plc dipped by 4.94 per cent to close at N11.35 per share.
Other share price losers include: United Bank for Africa Plc N0.43, Goldlink Insurance Plc N0.03, University Press Plc N0.25, Airline Services and Logistics Plc N0.09, Large Cement WAPCO Plc N1.97, Ecobank Transnational Incorporation Plc N0.20, Vitafoam Nigeria Plc N0.25, among others.
On the contrary, Associated Bus Company Plc led 16 other stocks on the gainers’ table with a nshare price appreciation of five per cent or N0.03 to close at N0.63 per share, Wema Bank Plc followed with a gain of 4.90 per cent to close at N1.50 per share and Union Bank Nigeria Plc garnered 4.86 per cent or N0.17 to close at N3.67 per share.
Other share price gainers include: Continental Reinsurance Plc N0.04, Eterna Oil Plc N0.22, Transnational Incorporation Plc N0.04, FTN Cocoa Processors Plc N0.02, RT Briscoe Plc N0.11, NEM Insurnce Plc 0.02, Unity Bank Plc N0.04, among others.
A turnover of 152.07 million shares valued at N1.17 billion was recorded in 5,081 deals as trading declined by 24.65 per cent, compared to Friday’s turnover of 201.83 million shares valued at N1.64 billion in 5,529 deals.
The Banking sub-sector dominated the other sub-sector on the sectorial analysis accounting for 57.24 per cent of the market turnover with 87.05 million shares valued at N749.10 million in 3,076 deals. Finbank Plc was the most active in the sub-sector trading 13.38 million shares valued at N10.53 million in 98 deals, Skye Bank Plc followed with the exchange of 12.66 million shares valued at N103.76 million in 154 deals and Zenith Bank Plc recorded 10.86 million shares valued at N164.62 million in 308 deals.
The insurance sub-sector followed on the sectorial analysis accounting for 12.25 per cent of the market turnover with 18.62 million shares valued at N12.12 million in 160 deals. Law Union and Rocks Insurance Plc enjoyed the most patronage in the sub-sector trading 14.07 million shares valued at N8.17 million in 16 deals, Niger Insurance Company Plc N723.69 million in eight deals and AIICO Insurance Plc recorded 1.06 million shares valued at N924.49 million in 23 deals.
