Members of the Association for Formidable Educational Development (Afed) an umbrella organization for private school proprietors have been advised to keep the school environment clean and obey the relevant regulations and directives from the Lagos state Ministry of Education so as to prevent clampdown by the government.
The chairman of the Yaba Chapter of the Association, Mr. Fasanmi Hilton gave the advice last week while addressing members of the association who converged in Total Ville Private School Yaba last week to welcome the National President of the Association, Mrs. Ifejola Dada and members of the Executive Council.
It was noted that clean school environment will promote the welfare of the children, just as it is important for the schools to also keep to the existing rules and regulations in Lagos State to sustain the existing cordial working relationship between Lagos State Ministry of Education and Afed.
Members were advised to put the information on their schools on Afed website and also join cooperative thrift and savings scheme launched by the Association so that they can have easy access to financial support.
The chairman also advised members to “give quality education to the children to justify the school fees they charge” while adding that, “it is important for members of the association to pay membership dues and attend meetings regularly.”
The National President, Mrs. Ifejola Dada thanked Members of the Yaba Chapter for turning out in large numbers to welcome the National Executive members of the Association. She commended the unity among members of the chapter and mentioned the steps taken by newly elected executives to move the association forward.
She disclosed, for example, that the association has secured assurance from Lagos State Ministry of Education to “reduce the incessant harassment or our members by unauthorized persons.” “We have also attended series of meetings with officials of the Ministry of Education and issues concerning the interest of our members discussed.
We have held our annual congress, produced Afed flag which has blue and white colours, we have opened our website and we have also finalized arrangements for the proposed programmes such as Joint Annual Children’s Day, National Afed Examination, National Afed Sports Festival and others.
She enjoined members to pay their membership dues regularly and obtain membership certificate which will be given once in a year to members who are up to date in attendance of meetings and payment of dues. Children of Total Ville Private School, Iwaya, venue of the meeting entertained the National Executives.
