Goodluck support group partners Sen. Okonkwo for 2011

AWKA—A nationwide voters’ awareness sensitization group, the Goodluck Girls committed to mobilizing over 30 million young female voters between the ages of 18-40 years to volunteer and vote for Goodluck Jonathan in the 2011 General election, has entered into  partnership with Senator Annie Okonkwo Campaign Organization, SACO, for the polls.

The group, which had been advocating for early registration and voting privileges for the physically challenged, the elderly and other vulnerable segments of the population, noted that it was time the character of politics in Anambra State was turned around through progressive infusion of vibrant youths, especially the girl voters.

The group has also concluded arrangements to feed over 60,000 people this Christmas in a civic social outreach to the poor, the elderly and the physically challenged throughout Anambra Central senatorial zone, beginning from December 26, 2010 to January 3, 2011.

Local governments that will benefit from the programme include, Awka North, Awka South, Anaocha, Dunukofia, Njikoka, Idemili North and Idemili South.

The mass feeding, titled ‘SOME XMAS’ (So Others Might Eat), is a pet project of the Goodluck Girls packaged to deepen President Goodluck Jonathan’s assurances that no Nigerian, especially the vulnerable segment, was hungry and without food this Christmas.

According to Princess Arit Onobo, National Coordinator of Goodluck Girls, the partnership with SACO is a powerful force for good, as Senator Okonkwo is a man who had made remarkable achievements for the good of his people before becoming a senator. She noted that Senator Okonkwo had been a strong voice in the Senate on national issues, especially as they affect Ndi Igbo.

Also commenting on the project, Elder statesman and foremost Ijaw leader, Chief Edwin Clark, who is also the Chief Patron of the Goodluck Girls, commended Senator Okonkwo for his charity and selfless services to humanity.

He urged political leaders to emulate Senator Okonkwo who he described as a bridge builder and an extra-ordinary philanthropist. He stated that 2011 presented the best opportunity for humanity who Goodluck Jonathan, Namadi Sambo and Senator Okonkwo diligently served to positively reward.

He urged the electorates to massively vote to return Jonathan as The mass feeding will also provide opportunity for the Goodluck Girls to mobilize support for Goodluck Jonathan and  Senator Annie Okonkwo and also Educate and sensitize young female voters (18_40 years) on the necessity of  Goodluck Jonathan’s Presidential victory, encourage young female
