PDP condemns plot to bomb Edo Assembly complex

By Simon Ebegbulem
BENIN CITY—THE Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Edo State has condemn the failed attempt to bomb the State House of Assembly complex, just as it denied any involvement of its members in the plot.

The party in a statement signed by its Director of Publicity, Mr Okharedia Ihimekpen, on behalf of the state Chairman of the party, Chief Dan Orbih, recalled that since the 22 February 2010, bloody fracas on the floor of the Assembly, “ PDP lawmakers have stayed away from the House, pending the proper re-convention of the House by the Speaker, Zakawanu Garuba.”

The party noted that ever since the incident, only the police and the 13 Action Congress, AC, lawmakers have had access to the Assembly complex, and urged the police to investigate with all sincerity the root of the planted bomb.

According to the party, the bomb was planted under the nose of policemen who have kept guard on the Assembly gate since last  Monday.

“Specifically, our attention has been drawn to the statement issued by My Anselm Ojezua, the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, desperately trying to absolve the state government from this ungodly act.

“It’s on record that since the ugly incident, PDP members have not been at the premises of the Assembly. 13 members of the AC, under tight police security, have been holding AC meeting in the chambers,” he said.

“Lamentably, we have been watching with keen interest the gradual deterioration of affairs in the state from the illegal suspension of council chairmen, withholding the excess crude funds due to councils, intimidation and harassment of PDP elected chairmen and the attempted failed effort to remove the speaker, Zakawanu Garuba.

“Added to it is the growing intolerance of the state government in the affairs of the state,” the PDP stated.

It urged Governor Adams Oshiomhole to tolerate political co-existence as it is in Anambra State, adding that “as a party that promotes the maintenance of law and order, we call on our sympathizers to remain calm and faithful to the party.

“We wish to state categorically that PDP is more united more than ever before to work assiduously to the electoral dethronement of Governor Oshiomhole’s government.

“The attempt to bring the name of PDP in disrepute is an attempt to divert attention of poor governance in the state”.
