Edo ANPP backs Buhari

By Simon Ebegbulem
BENIN—Leader of All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in Edo State, Comrade Godwin Erhahon, has backed the resignation of the presidential candidate of the party in the 2007 presidential election, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) from the party.

According to him, members of the party in the state have concluded plans to join him wherever he goes.

The former military president had announced his decision to quit the party last Wednesday, citing fundamental and irreconcilable ideological differences between him and the leadership of the ANPP as reasons for his decision.

Erhahon recalled in a statement yesterday, General Buhari’s gallant moves throughout his stay in the ANPP, regretting that all his efforts to re-brand the party were thwarted by some self-seeking politicians who never meant well for the country.

He, however, appealed to Buhari not to reject those ANPP leaders who might meet him at the mega party, as there was neither permanent friend nor enemy but permanent interest in politics.

“We witnessed how Buhari’s South-South Presidential Campaign coordinator betrayed him before and after the election and secretly entered into an accord of sell out with another party, where he too felt food was ready.

“These chains of betrayal are enough to erode the confidence of General Buhari in the leadership of the ANPP beyond reconciliation. From the foregoing, we reassure General Buhari that for now, where he goes, we shall go and where he dwells, we shall dwell in politics.”

“We call on all progressives in the country to rally round Buhari as events have confirmed him the most ideal president Nigeria needs now, a messiah dreaded by all enemies of the people,” he said.
