Imo denies plot to effect Udenwa’s sack

By Chidi Nkwopara

Rumours  in Imo state that the recent delegation to the Presidency was to effect the removal of the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Chief Achike Udenwa, has been described as “false, unchristian and uncharitable

Champion publisher and leader of the delegation, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, who stated this at a press briefing in Owerri, also disclosed that the trip was not a state government affair.

“The delegation did not request the removal of any Minister from office. The story making the rounds in Imo state is patently false, unchristian and uncharitable. The trip was an Imo affair and not a transaction of the state government”, Chief Iwuanyanwu said.

Saying that it was most unfair to castigate Governor Ikedi Ohakim because of the trip, Iwuanyanwu argued that the trip to the Presidency afforded them the opportunity to thank the President for previous favours, as well as ask for more.

“For many years, Imo people made appeals to successive Federal Governments to take over Alvan Ikoku College of Education. These appeals failed but President Yar’Adua has not only announced the takeover of the institution but has also converted it to a Federal University of Education”, Iwuanyanwu said.

After giving a graphic account of all the contracts awarded by the Federal Government that favoured Imo state, Chief iwuanyanwu also said they reminded the President that Imo is a Niger Delta state and has militants and restive youths.

“Imo leaders therefore requested that any post militancy package for the Niger Delta states must include Imo state, otherwise, the youths and the militants will feel betrayed”, Iwuanyanwu said.
