Borno Assembly may impeach speaker

By Ndahi Marama

MAIDUGURI — THERE are strong indications that the controversial Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Mr Goni Ali Modu may soon lose his seat of six years as members of the state Assembly who were allegedly dissatisfied with his style of leadership met with him on Monday to tell him their mind.

He was accused of “highhandedness, treating members with little regards, imposition of executive decision, not returning phone calls or text messages of fellow members, inaccessibility, and lack of transparency in the management of the Assembly affairs.”

The speaker could, however, not be reached in person or on phone to defend the allegations levelled at him.

According to impeccable sources from within the membership of the Assembly, who pleaded anonymity, “the House is traumatically confused and tired of the speaker’s style of leadership and had resolved to tell him to his face that this would no longer be tolerated as the Speaker of the state’s Assembly, who always put his selfish interest above matters concerning the House.”
