Abakaliki – The Ebonyi Government has banned the operation on commercial motorcyclists on dualised roads in the Abakaliki metropolis.
The Commissioner for Information, Mr Ken Ohuo, told journalists in Abakaliki that this was one of the decisions reached at the State Executive Council meeting.
He said the government had also barred commercial motorcyclists from operating on all roads in the capital city between the hours of 7p.m. and 6 a.m.
Ohuo said, “the Council noted with great concern the increasing incidents of shooting and maiming of innocent citizens of the state by robbers, who operate on motorcycles and had to take the decision in the interest of the citizenry.’’
“Beginning from Saturday, August 15, 2009, motorcyclists are barred from all dualised roads in Abakaliki metropolis. Every road within the capital city that is dualised, motorcycle operators are longer allowed to ply on them. Also, from the same date, motorcyclists are barred from operating on all roads from 7p.m. to 6 a.m. daily.â€
